Image Usage

Many of the images in Arts of Liberty’s galleries and timeline are courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.

In accordance with the Commons’ information, many of our images are in the public domain because of copyright expiration. Images marked as “Public domain” in our image galleries  usually fall under one of two categories:

1) Images which are not works of art: {{PD-US}}

2) Images which are faithful representations of two-dimensional works of art: {{PD-Art}}

Images which are attributed to an author usually fall under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license or Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic license. They may also fall under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 Generic license. We release all images under the same license with which they were obtained. Images may have been edited or adjusted.

Please note that images marked as public domain may not fall under the public domain outside the United States. Images may have been modified.
